The album, produced and curated by Willie's son Micah Nelson, explores themes of loss, love, and world-weary hope, with a central focus on "facing death with grace."

"Lost Cause" is part of a diverse collection of songs that showcase Willie Nelson's enduring artistry. The album features contributions from various musicians, including John Densmore on drums, Daniel Lanois on pedal steel, Micah Nelson on guitars and piano, Willie Nelson on lead vocals and his iconic guitar Trigger, Mickey Raphael on harmonica, and Magatte Sow on percussion.

At 91 years old, Willie Nelson continues to be an active force in the music industry. "Last Leaf on the Tree" marks his 76th solo studio album and 153rd album overall, demonstrating his prolific career spanning seven decades as a songwriter, performer, and recording artist.
