Whitey Morgan and the 78's, the Michigan-based country band led by Eric Allen (known professionally as Whitey Morgan), have made a triumphant return to the music scene with their latest single, "Somewhere Along the Way".

Released on February 7, 2025, the track joins previously released singles, "We Had It All" and "Let It Roll," which marked their first new music since their 2018 album "Hard Times and White Lines". The new single, produced by acclaimed musician and producer Shooter Jennings, showcases the band's signature blend of honky-tonk and outlaw country sounds.

Whitey Morgan and the 78's have been a staple in the country music scene since their formation in 2005. Originally known as Whitey Morgan and the Waycross Georgia Farmboys, the band quickly established themselves in the Midwest honky-tonk scene. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2010 on Bloodshot Records, reached number 64 on the U.S. Country Albums chart, signaling their growing popularity.

The band's music is deeply rooted in the traditions of outlaw country, drawing comparisons to legends like Waylon Jennings. However, Morgan himself has expressed discomfort with the "outlaw" label, preferring to focus on the authenticity and emotional depth of their music. Their songs often explore themes of drinking, heartbreak, and the struggles of everyday life, reflecting Morgan's experiences growing up in Flint, Michigan.

In addition to "Somewhere Along the Way," the band has been working on new material in the studio. Morgan has hinted at covering a lesser-known Waylon Jennings song and recording a Bobby Bare tune called "That's How I Got To Memphis," indicating a mix of original material and carefully chosen covers for their upcoming releases.

The current lineup of Whitey Morgan and the 78's includes Morgan on vocals and guitar, Brett Robinson on pedal steel guitar, Joey Spina on guitar, Alex Lyon on bass, and Eric Savage on drums. This stable lineup has contributed to a renewed sense of camaraderie and energy in the band's live performances and studio work.

As they continue to build on their legacy, Whitey Morgan and the 78's remain committed to preserving the spirit of traditional country music while pushing the boundaries of their sound. With "Somewhere Along the Way" and the promise of more new music on the horizon, the band is poised to captivate both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
