Thomas Rhett Reimagines Single "What Could Go Right" Featuring Collaboration With Lanie Gardner

Thomas Rhett has released a reimagined version of his single "What Could Go Right," now featuring rising country star Lanie Gardner, which was released on March 21, 2025. The original version of the song appeared on Rhett's seventh studio album "About A Woman," which was released on August 23, 2024.

The collaboration with Gardner adds a new dimension to the track, creating new perspective and emotional depth while maintaining the song's "ethereal dream-pop textures" and "intricate composition". Rhett explained his vision for the collaboration, stating: "In the back of my mind, I always envisioned 'What Could Go Right' being a feature on the album. When I first heard Lanie's cover of 'Dreams,' I started listening to her original music and became an instant fan".

Gardner, who was recently recognized as part of CMT's Next Women of Country Class of 2025, expressed her excitement about the collaboration on Instagram, commenting: "freakin' love [Thomas Rhett] and his music so… it's pretty dang cool to be a part of this".

"What Could Go Right" captures the will-they-won't-they excitement that marked the beginning of Rhett's relationship with his wife, Lauren Akins. The song portrays the uncertainty and underlying desire shared between two friends contemplating taking their relationship to the next level. Co-written with Rocky Block, John Byron, and Josh Kerr, the track encourages embracing optimism in love rather than focusing on potential pitfalls.

Thomas Rhett Akins Jr., born March 30, 1990, in Valdosta, Georgia, is the son of country singer Rhett Akins. His musical career has been remarkably successful, with seven studio albums released through Big Machine Records' Valory Music imprint. His discography includes "It Goes Like This" (2013), "Tangled Up" (2015), "Life Changes" (2017), "Center Point Road" (2019), "Country Again: Side A" (2021), "Where We Started" (2022), and "About A Woman" (2024).

Throughout his career, Rhett has achieved 20 number one singles on the Country Airplay chart, including hits like "Die a Happy Man," "Craving You," and "Beer Can't Fix". His accomplishments have earned him four Grammy Award nominations, with two of his albums being nominated for Best Country Album in 2017 and 2019. In 2020, he was named Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Beyond his own recording success, Rhett has proven himself as a skilled songwriter, penning hits for other country artists including Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Florida Georgia Line, LoCash, and Michael Ray. In 2013, he made history when half of the top 10 singles on the Country Airplay chart were written by either Rhett or his father.

Rhett's "About A Woman" album, which features the original version of "What Could Go Right," was described by the artist as "about one woman, my wife, and it gave me an opportunity to say 'I love you' in a lot of different ways". The 14-track collection showcases Rhett's signature style while exploring new genre boundaries.

Looking ahead, Rhett will be hitting the road in 2025 with his "Better In Boots Tour," which will visit 30 cities across North America. The tour will feature direct support from Tucker Wetmore as well as special guests The Castellows or Dasha.

According to USA Today, Rhett has been dubbed the "Prince of Country Music" for attaining 18 No. 1 hits in just 9 years. Billboard ranked him as the 12th Top Country Artist of the 2010s decade and the 95th Top Artist of the Decade overall. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) reports that Rhett has sold 40 million singles and 4.5 million certified albums in the United States.
