Randy Houser Unveils "Cancel" Featuring Cody Johnson on "Note To Self (Deluxe)" Album
Randy Houser, the multi-Platinum country music artist known for his powerful vocals and traditional country sound, has released a new collaborative version of his song "Cancel" featuring country superstar Cody Johnson. This track is part of Houser's recently unveiled "Note To Self (Deluxe)" album, an expanded version of his 2022 project that includes four new collaborations.
"Cancel," written by Houser and co-produced with Jay Tooke, is a song that draws on spiritual introspection to promote forgiveness and empathy. The collaboration came about organically, as Houser explains, "After I wrote it, I went on Cody's bus, and we talked about cutting it together. I was honored that something so meaningful to me was also important enough to him to want to be a part of it".
"Cancel" artfully addresses shifting cultural landscapes through a traditional lens, with Houser and Johnson delivering resonant performances that speak to their roots. The track's message is crystallized in poignant lyrics like "Right is right and God is the answer / Living this life the devil wants to cancel," reflecting on faith, family, and maintaining traditional values in changing times. The partnership with Johnson brings additional depth and authenticity to this standout addition to the deluxe album.
Born on December 18, 1975, in Lake, Mississippi, Houser's musical journey began at an early age, influenced by his father who was also a musician. His early musical influences included traditional country artists such as Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, and George Jones, as well as Southern rock bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers Band.
Houser's career in the music industry began as a songwriter in Nashville in the early 2000s. He co-wrote hits for other artists, including "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" for Trace Adkins. His breakthrough as a solo artist came in 2008 with his debut album "Anything Goes," which produced his first top 5 hit, "Boots On".
The "Note To Self (Deluxe)" album also features other notable collaborations, including "Still That Cowboy" with Miranda Lambert, "Rub A Little Dirt On It" with Riley Green, and "Country Round Here Tonight" with Justin Moore. These tracks showcase Houser's ability to blend traditional country elements with contemporary influences, a style that has earned him praise from critics and fans alike.
Houser's success in the industry was further cemented last week when he was surprised with a RIAA Certified-Gold plaque for the title track "Note To Self" during a performance at Bridgestone Arena, marking his first Gold record with Magnolia Music Group.
As Houser continues to evolve as an artist, his commitment to authentic country music remains steadfast. The release of "Cancel" featuring Cody Johnson and the "Note To Self (Deluxe)" album represents another chapter in his storied career, showcasing his powerful vocals, emotive storytelling, and ability to collaborate with other top talents in the genre.
