Mackenzie Carpenter Releases "I Wish You Would" Featuring Midland, Ahead of Debut Album
Mackenzie Carpenter, a rising country music star from Hull, Georgia, has unveiled her latest single, "I Wish You Would (ft. Midland)", setting the stage for her highly anticipated debut album "Hey Country Queen." The track, released on February 7, 2025 via The Valory Music Co., a division of Big Machine Label Group, masterfully combines traditional and modern country sensibilities through its compelling collaboration with Midland.
The song, co-written by Carpenter alongside Jonathan Hutcherson, Jamie Moore, and Chris Tompkins, captures the essence of a flirtatious encounter in a country dive bar. With its twangy guitars and steady drumbeats, the duet between Carpenter and Midland's Mark Wystrach evokes the classic country sound of the 1970s, reminiscent of iconic duets like Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn.
Carpenter's musical journey began in her hometown, where she grew up singing in church and writing songs with her brothers. Her father, a preacher, encouraged her to write her own music, setting her on the path to becoming a songwriter. After graduating from Belmont University with a degree in Songwriting and Music Business, Carpenter's career took off when she co-wrote Lily Rose's 2021 No. 1 hit "Villain".
In addition to "I Wish You Would," Carpenter recently released "Dozen Red Flags" on January 10, 2025, as part of the lead-up to her debut album. The album, "Hey Country Queen," is set for release on March 7, 2025, and features 13 tracks co-written by Carpenter. The project aims to pay homage to the country queens who inspired her while showcasing her unique voice and storytelling abilities.
Carpenter's rise in the country music scene has been marked by several achievements. She was named to Spotify's Hot Country 2024 Artists to Watch, CMT's Next Women of Country class of 2023, and Nashville Briefing's Artists to Watch 2023. She has also opened for established artists such as Miranda Lambert, Megan Moroney, and Jake Owen.
As she prepares for the release of "Hey Country Queen," Carpenter continues to build on her reputation as a talented songwriter and performer. Her ability to blend traditional country elements with modern sensibilities, as demonstrated in "I Wish You Would," positions her as an artist to watch in the evolving landscape of country music.
